Why is the coaching field growing?
We want to encourage effective and reasonably quick ways to achieve personal and business fulfillment. We want to become natural and authentic — now. A Sociology professor of mine believed that we need to have a genuine sense of belonging. He taught that without this sense of belonging, we may experience anomie. This is a feeling of disorientation and alienation.
To create a healthy lifestyle it helps to establish a partnership with a compassionate, intuitive, innovative, inspiring, challenging and strong motivator who serves as a coach. Exponentially, people are discovering that coaching is especially effective and that measurable results can begin almost immediately in some areas. Additionally, coaching with a professional expert is more socially acceptable than working with a therapist. This is particularly true with men.
What is coaching?
World-class athletes understand it. Actors, CEOs, and authors utilize it. Many successful people pay a coach to help them achieve excellence in their chosen field. People from all walks of life are hiring coaches so that they too can have a high quality, extraordinary life.
I embrace my coaching as a forward-thinking, compassionate, collaborative, interactive, caring, objective, and professional partnership based upon equality between you and me that helps you achieve your personal, family, relationship, career, spiritual, and business goals.
Together, we acknowledge and accept you for who and what you are today. We then prepare a list of your current and future goals and objectives. You prioritize them and collectively we design the steps necessary to achieve what you want. This becomes your action plan. The remainder of our coaching includes monitoring, revising, and completing your action plan.
How is coaching successful?
How many people have been in your life that really cared about you and listened better than most of the people you have known, suspended judgments about you and your behavior, and asked insightful and thoughtful questions rather than giving advice? Who is providing this for you now?
Your success begins when you hire a coach who exhibits these qualities naturally. Coaching is also effective by the process of assimilating, synthesizing, strategizing, integrating, analyzing, formulating, and implementing everything that we discuss together so that you can do more than if you were on your own. The success of coaching includes these and many more diverse methods and approaches.
How will I know when I have found the best coach for me?
When you feel the coach's compassion, intelligence, curiosity, creativity, sense of humor, trust, intuition, respect, and honor for you and the coaching partnership, you have the best coach. Additionally, when you know that your coach believes in your capacity to make the necessary changes that bring you to the life you desire and deserve.
What are the qualities of an effective coach?
An effective coach is a wonderful listener to what you say and what you have yet to share. A quality coach knows the unusual and stimulating questions to always support and challenge you. An excellent coach is an expert at challenging you to empower yourself in a balanced way.You will have experienced effective coaching when you increasingly feel more hopeful about your present and future, and when changes begin to occur to support your goals.

How is coaching with you different than reading or listening to self improvement books?
You will feel the ongoing nuance of motivation, clarity, guidance, and support when you are working in partnership with me. What we work on together is tailored to you for each moment. Self improvement tapes and books have value, and I do recommend them to my clients with the awareness that they are less personal to a client's changing life.

What are the differences between coaching and therapy?
Coaching is not therapy. It was not designed to be therapy. It is not a substitute for therapy. Coaching supports the successful, healthy, and well-balanced person who is at peace with their past.
The basic goal of therapy is to bring an individual with a dysfunctional life to a state of function. Therapy is about treating the person, while coaching guides and supports. There are many other differences between coaching and therapy, and between a coach and a therapist.
If you have had prior counseling, you may move to coaching if you and your counselor believe that the therapy was effective in helping you to accept your past issues and that you can move forward unburdened. If you are currently in the final stages of therapy, it is still advisable to discuss this with your counselor and with your potential coach before beginning the coaching. If you are in a lot of emotional pain or distress, therapy is probably a better choice.
It is not unusual for a client to be working concurrently with a coach and a therapist. Coaching is focused primarily on achievement and fulfillment in the present and future. Coaching clients have worked through and accepted their pasts, and are ready to concentrate on what happens from here forward. Therapy is focused on healing wounds from the past, and on bringing a client from dysfunction to function.
